Glory of the New Covenant

Ministers of the New Covenant:

2 Corinthians 2:12-17 –ย  12 Now when I went to Troasย to preach the gospel of Christย and found that the Lord had opened a doorย for me,ย 13ย I still had no peace of mind,ย because I did not find my brother Titusย there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.

14ย But thanks be to God,ย who always leads us as captives in Christโ€™s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aromaย of the knowledgeย of him everywhere.ย 15ย For we are to God the pleasing aromaย of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.ย 16ย To the one we are an aroma that brings death;ย to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task?ย 17ย Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit.ย On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity,ย as those sent from God.

Results of Our Ministry

2 Corinthians 3:1-6 – Are we beginning to commend ourselvesย again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendationย to you or from you?ย 2ย You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.ย 3ย You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God,ย not on tablets of stoneย but on tablets of human hearts.

4ย Such confidenceย we have through Christ before God.ย 5ย Not that we are competent in ourselvesย to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.ย 6ย He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenantโ€”not of the letterย but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Greater Glory……

7ย Now if the ministry that brought death,ย which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory,ย transitory though it was,ย 8ย will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?ย 9ย If the ministry that brought condemnationย was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!10ย For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.ย 11ย And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!

12ย Therefore, since we have such a hope,ย we are very bold.ย 13ย We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his faceย to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away.ย 14ย But their minds were made dull,ย for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenantย is read.ย It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.ย 15ย Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.ย 16ย But whenever anyone turns to the Lord,ย the veil is taken away.ย 17ย Now the Lord is the Spirit,ย and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.ย 18ย And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lordโ€™s glory,ย are being transformed into his imageย with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Precious Ministry in Clay Jars:

2 Corinthians 4:1ย  – Therefore, since through Godโ€™s mercyย we have this ministry, we do not lose heart

v4 The godย of this ageย has blindedย the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ,ย who is the image of God.

6ย For God, who said, โ€œLet light shine out of darkness,โ€ made his light shine in our heartsย to give us the light of the knowledge of Godโ€™s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

7ย But we have this treasure in jars of clayย to show that this all-surpassing power is from Godย and not from us.ย 8ย We are hard pressed on every side,ย but not crushed; perplexed,ย but not in despair;ย 9ย persecuted,ย but not abandoned;ย struck down, but not destroyed.ย 10ย We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,ย so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

16 Therefore we do not lose heart.ย Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardlyย we are being renewedย day by day.ย 17ย For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.ย 18ย So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,ย since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

New Glorious Bodies:

1 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.ย 2ย Meanwhile we groan,ย longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,ย 3ย because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.ย 4ย For while we are in this tent, we groanย and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling,ย so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.ย 5ย Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

6ย Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.ย 7ย For we live by faith, not by sight.ย 8ย We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.ย 9ย So we make it our goal to please him,ย whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

2 Corinthians 7:1Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
