The Role of a Believer as a Priest

The role of a believer as a priest is to offer spiritual sacrifices to the Lord.

According to 1 Peter 2:9, through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, we were all given the position of royal priesthood.

Under the New Testament covenant terms, every believer is a priest. We do not offer animal sacrifices, but spiritual sacrifices.

NB: With every priest, there is an altar and a sacrifice. In the New Testament priesthood, we should build an altar of praise and worship in our lives.

Genesis 22:9-12

Abraham was called into a new place; Moriah, and in Christ we receive a cal to a new place.

As we respond to the call for a new place – to go offer a sacrifice of worship – this calls for total and complete obedience to God.

In the new place, there is a manifestation of God’s highest purpose in and for our lives. Also, God is known in a new way in this new place.

True spiritual sacrifice or worship demands total surrender to the Lord. This involves the surrender of OUR THINGS ie. What we value most – OUR ISAACS.

NB: Worship involves the priestly traits of duty and purity.

Exodus 30:18-21, 40:12-16 – Just as the priests were to wash their hands and feet at the LAVER before entering to minister, we are to be washed and cleansed by the water of the word and regeneration of the Holy Spirit.
