Church of Corinth Part 5

Continuation Chapter 10…..

a). UNITY OF HOLY COMMUNION:

v16 When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ? NLT

v17 And though we are many, we all eat from ONE loaf of bread, showing that we are ONE body.

v18 Think about the people of Israel. Weren’t they UNITED by eating the sacrifices at the altar? NLT

b). Though Idols are not gods, sacrifices that take place there are offered to demons not to God v20. We should not partake with demons.

v21 You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too. NLT

What happens:

v22 We arouse God’s jealousy and deeply offend him by partaking in pagan feasts in the name of believers liberty.

v23-24 Those saying we’re allowed to do anything (Misuse of Grace): Not everything is good for you or beneficial.

v24 Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.NLT

v25 – 33 Matters of conscience concerning Food offered to idols

– Some freedom is forfeited for the sake of the others and conscience.

v31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

v32 – 33 Don’t give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.

1 Corinthians 11

v1 You must follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. CEV

(1 Cor 4:16, Phil 3:7)

v2 Paul was proud of them because they were remembering him and following his example

v 3 One thing he wanted them to know:

The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. NLT

v4 A man dishonours Christ if he prays or prophesies with his head covered v7 Man was made in God’s image and reflects His glory just like how a woman reflects a man’s glory

v5-6 A woman dishonours the husband if she prays or prophesies without a cover on her head, which is equal to shaving.

v8 Woman came from the first man, and not man from woman

v9 Man was not made for woman but woman for man.

v10 During worship, a woman should cover her head for the sake of angels to show she’s under authority.

v11 In Christ, women are not independent of men, nor men independent of women v12 for woman came from man, but every other man was born of a woman, and everything comes from God.

v13-16 This was a general accepted custom. That a woman covers her head during public worship – the hair is her pride and joy giver to her for cover, but a discharge for a man to have long hair

Order for the LORD’S SUPPER:

v17 Their worship was doing more harm than good and Paul could not praise them

v18 There were divisions during worship… v19 All the same, Paul rejoiced that the divisions will make those with God’s Approval to be recognized.

v20 They were not really interested in the Lord’s SUPPER

v21-22 Some were eating before others could arrive without even sharing with those who didn’t have anything to eat. Some were even getting drunk and Paul wondered why they were disrespectful of God’s house that much, and shamming the poor.

v23-34 Instructions for the Lord’s SUPPER

– Self examination

– Not becoming familiar with the body and the blood lest we bring judgement on ourselves.

v3-4 “If you are really hungry, eat at home so you wo

n’t bring judgment upon yourselves when you meet together.”
