Dangers of Divided Love (Uncontrolled Lust)

1 Kings 11:1-2King Solomon, however, loved many foreign womenย besides Pharaohโ€™s daughterโ€”Moabites, Ammonites,ย Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites.ย 2ย They were from nations about which theย Lordย had told the Israelites, โ€œYou must not intermarryย with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.โ€ Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.

v3 – He had 700 wives, 300 concubines and his wives led him ASTRAY.

v4 – As Solomon GREW OLD, his wives turned his heart after other gods (He started well and finished terribly), and his heart was NOT fully devoted to the Lord his God.

v5 – He followedย  Ashtoreth (goddess of the Sidonians), Molek (detestable god of the Ammonites), v7 Chemosh (detestable god of moab), Molek (detestable god of Ammonites)

v9 – God became angry with Solomon, for he had appeared to him TWICE.

Resultsย of v33 – Forsaking God, worshipping idols, disobedience, not doing what is right in God’s eyes, and failing to keep the decrees and Laws as David:

v11 – His kingdom was torn, v14 – adversaries arose, v23 – Another adversary, v26 – rebellion in his own kingdom.

He ended up losing His vast kingdom: compare the end of his reign with the beginning: 1 Kings 2:12, 4:20, 25, 29, 32-34, 10:14-27 (His Splendor).

1 Kings 5:4 – “But now the Lord my God has given me restย on every side, and there is no adversaryย or disaster.”
