{"id":2360,"date":"2024-06-08T20:19:31","date_gmt":"2024-06-08T20:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.giveasmiletoday.org\/?p=2360"},"modified":"2024-06-09T09:06:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-09T09:06:32","slug":"baptism-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.giveasmiletoday.org\/?p=2360","title":{"rendered":"Baptism Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Baptism in the Old Testament<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Typologies:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 3:20-21<\/strong> shows that Noah was in the ark, going through the water of the flood, as\u00a0 in Christ we go through the water of baptism.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Peter talks about cleansing of the heart; the washing of conscience. **What makes baptism significant is not becoming wet (<em>removal of dirt<\/em>), but the <strong>PLEDGE<\/strong>; as a symbol of <strong>UNRESERVED<\/strong> dedication to God.\u00a0 This is only possible through Christ resurrection who makes us right with God.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Peter 2:4-5<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Jude 1:5-6<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Corinthians 10:1-2<\/strong> shows that the Israelites were baptized\/immersed into Moses. That is, they identified with him and the covenant he brought to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonah 2:5-6<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; &#8220;<em>Water encompassed me to the point of death. The deep engulfed me&#8230;&#8230;., but you brought my life from the pit oh Lord my God.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">This is a type of baptism (<em>death &amp; resurrection<\/em>).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jesus quoted Jonah&#8217;s experience in <strong>Luke 11:29-30<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baptism in the New Testament<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mark 1:9-11<\/li>\n<li>Matthew 3:13-17 (v15**)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Acts 19:3-5<\/strong> talks about John&#8217;s baptism: Repent and believe in Jesus (<strong>NLT<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>Jesus identified himself with John&#8217;s ministry (<em><strong>of repentance<\/strong><\/em>), and identified himself with sinners by fulfilling all righteousness.<\/p>\n<p>**Through baptism, we make a public declaration (<strong>Ring<\/strong>) that we belong to Christ and we are not ashamed of Him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baptism is a command<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 28:18-20<\/strong>: Through repentance those who believe become disciples of Jesus, and identify with him through baptism.
